When asked what made Alan right for the role, Bill commented: "He comes highly regarded and at the top of his game having held impressive roles throughout his career to date. Ultimately, his strong commercial focus with experience in the field was a great match and, did I mention, he isn't a bad guy either!"
Baker McKenzie's head of corporate in Australia, Ben McLaughlin stated: "I’m delighted that Alan has joined our firm. As evidenced by recent awards, such as being ranked #1 M&A by Bloomberg for Q1 2018, and winning a 2018 Asia Business Law Journal Deal of the Year Award, we’ve been busy across M&A and capital markets, and Alan will bring an outstanding skill-set to assist our clients. In the past year, we’ve managed to convince a number of very talented lawyers to join us, increasing our ability to advise on high-end, cutting-edge transactions for our clients. Alan joins an expanding team, following senior hires such as Lauren Magraith (formerly with J.P. Morgan), Antony Rumboll (formerly UBS), Duncan McGrath (former head of Debt Capital Markets at a leading national law firm), Paul Anderson (U.S. capital markets, formerly with leading Wall Street law firms), and Caroline Tait (formerly with J.P. Morgan).”
Alan is an experienced finance industry professional with extensive knowledge and experience of investment banking, derivatives, asset management, financial product development, investment platform management, corporate strategy, governance and legal regulatory compliance. He possesses a strong track record of product issuance with emphasis on innovative product design. He has been a CEO, responsible manager and director of ASIC and APRA regulated entities for structured products issuance, managed investment schemes and superannuation products.
In joining Baker McKenzie, Alan stated: "The Baker McKenzie brand in Australia was already well known and attractive to me. Combine this with the knowledge that many highly regarded in house counsel had come from impressive financial institutions to work in private practice at the firm, also says a great deal. Ultimately, the global platform, calibre of talent and ability to work with the world's leading companies operating or investing in and out of Australia, was too good an opportunity to pass up on."
