Overnight, Baker McKenzie has ranked number 1 for lead manager roles in Thomson Reuters ECM League Tables (Australia) in Q1 2018 (tied with Gilbert + Tobin). This comes hot off the heels having topped Bloomberg M&A League Tables for the first quarter of this year.
Baker McKenzie Head of Capital Markets, Craig Andrade stated: "Starting the year in the top spot for both ECM and M&A is fantastic news and shows the strength of Baker McKenzie across our entire Corporate group. We're continuing to grow and are attracting top talent across the Group."
According to capital markets league tables published by Thomson Reuters, Baker McKenzie (equal first with Gilbert + Tobin) advised on more manager side ECM deals than any other firm in Australia.
This news combined with the recent Bloomberg M&A league tables (Australia and New Zealand) Q1 revealed Baker McKenzie topped the M&A table based on deal volume with a market share of 30.4 per cent, up 16.3 per cent from last year, ahead of DLA Piper, Kromann Reumert, King & Wood Mallesons and Herbert Smith Freehills.
Late last year, Baker McKenzie appointed Duncan McGrath, a high-profile, senior debt capital markets lawyer as a partner in the Sydney office. Duncan was previously a partner at Gilbert + Tobin, where he established and headed that firm's DCM and securitisation practice. In the same period, the Firm also appointed Antony Rumboll, previously executive director in legal at UBS, who covered ECM, M&A and DCM at UBS for the past decade. Only this week, the Firm announced the appointment of Alan Darwin, former executive director at J.P. Morgan, to its financial services team.
