Baker McKenzie is pleased to announce the continued growth of its Toronto office with the addition of five new senior team members. This includes Anne Sedgewick, who joined the Firm as Counsel in December and Matthew Grant, who joined as Partner in January. Also in January, the Firm elected three new Partners in the Toronto office, Christopher Burkett, Ahmed Shafey and Ora Wexler.

Christopher Burkett is a Partner in the Firm's Employment & Compensation Practice. Chris's broad advocacy and investigations practice focuses on employment, civil, compliance and criminal law matters. He also regularly advises private and public corporations on regulatory compliance matters, particularly in the areas of anti-corruption and international human rights.
Matthew Grant is Partner in the Firm's Corporate & Securities Practice. Matthew focuses his practice on a variety of transactional matters and corporate governance advice. He previously spent 10 years with the Firm before leaving to act as Senior Corporate Counsel (Securities) for one of the largest dual listed issuers in Canada. He returned to Baker McKenzie in January 2018.
Anne Sedgwick is Counsel in the Firm's Real Estate Practice. Anne joined in December 2017, bringing more than a decade of experience in corporate and real estate transactions. Anne advises owner-managed businesses, real estate management firms and privately-held corporations on a range of corporate and commercial matters, including the acquisition and sale of businesses and commercial real property, corporate governance, corporate restructurings, commercial loans and mortgages, and commercial leasing.
Ahmed Shafey is a Partner in the Firm's Litigation & Government Enforcement Practice. Ahmed is a commercial litigator who advises on contractual disputes, professional liability actions, class actions, shareholder disputes, product liability actions, government procurement litigation, international commercial arbitrations and bankruptcy and insolvency proceedings. He also advises on civil fraud and asset recovery matters, as well as business crime investigations.
Ora Wexler is a Partner in the Firm's Corporate & Securities Practice. Ora's practice focuses on capital markets transactions and securities regulatory matters, including private placements, public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, capital market regulatory compliance matters and other securities issues.
