Baker McKenzie welcomes UK Government creation of new Office for Product Safety and Standards
Baker McKenzie partners Kate Corby and John Leadley have today welcomed the Government's announcement regarding the creation of a new Office for Product Safety and Standards. This announcement follows a series of recommendations made by the UK Government's Working Group on Product Recalls and Safety, of which John Leadley and Kate Corby are the only law firm members.
Commenting, Kate Corby said: "It is heartening to see that the Government has listened to the recommendations of our Working Group. Any move which leads to a better understanding by business, consumers and the authorities of this area of regulation and most importantly its practical application, is to be welcomed. The devil, of course, will be in the detail, which we await with great interest".
John Leadley added: ""The creation of a central product safety regulator will bring greater clarity and consistency to the product recall process and should be welcomed by manufacturers and consumers alike."
