Baker McKenzie has named David Allen as its new Global Chair of Private Equity, effective 26 October 2017. David, who joined the Firm as a trainee in 2001 and was made Partner in 2010, has led Baker McKenzie's Private Equity and Funds practice in London for the last two years. He is also responsible for leading the Firm's London 2020 Growth Strategy, which seeks to grow the firm's transactional capabilities across the Corporate, Banking, Transactional Tax and Dispute Resolution practices.

Baker McKenzie’s Private Equity Practice comprises over 300 private equity lawyers across more than 40 countries. The team advises clients on a broad range of transactions, fund formation and fund investment activities and acting for some of the world’s most prominent private equity firms and investors. David takes over the role from Michael Fieweger, who will take up the position of Regional Practice Group Leader for Private Equity in North America. David's practice is primarily focused on mergers & acquisitions and restructurings for private equity funds, infrastructure funds, pension funds and other clients. He also has significant experience in representing management teams in respect of their equity incentive structures in primary and secondary buyouts. David has spent time in the Firm's Sydney and Moscow offices.
In December 2016, David and the London practice won "Private Equity Team of the Year" at the 2016 British Legal Awards for its work for Bain Capital on the $3.1bn sale of its portfolio company, Brakes to Sysco Corporation; the largest private equity exit outside the US in 2016.

In June, the Firm promoted 3 of its Private Equity Senior Associates to Partner: Derek Kwan in Singapore; Edwin Wong in Hong Kong; and Petra Hanselmann in Zurich.
