Baker McKenzie expands its corporate practice with partner Berthold Hummel in Munich
Baker McKenzie wins a private equity team from Dechert to strengthen its corporate practice in Germany. Berthold Hummel joins Baker McKenzie as a corporate partner in Munich.

Berthold Hummel has been an equity partner at Dechert in Munich since 2006 and has been advising as a member of its Private Equity and Life Sciences Practice Group on a significant number of large-scale transactions. Prior to that, he served six years as Senior Legal Counsel in the Legal Department of 3i Group plc and was in charge for its transactional business in the D-A-CH region. He has gained more than 20 years of in depths experience in M&A and private equity.
He focuses on cross-border corporate M&A, private equity, growth capital and venture capital financings by advising institutional investors, sponsors, family offices, management teams as well as companies backed by financial sponsors and institutional investors. A further focus of his work is the structuring and implementation of management co-investment schemes and employee participation programs, advising on corporate restructurings, equity capital markets transactions and on general corporate law matters.
Most recently Berthold Hummel advised the sellers on all legal and tax aspects in a cross-border acquisition of Rigontec, a leader in RIG-I targeting RNA therapeutics, by Merck for a cash upfront payment of € 115 million and additional payments of up to € 349 million based on the achievement of certain predefined milestones.

The latest partners to strengthen the Baker McKenzie German corporate practice were Dr. Tim Heitling and Dr. Thomas Dörmer in Berlin with their particular focus on the energy sector. Prior to this, Dr. Ingo Strauss and Dr. Heiko Gotsche joined the firm in Düsseldorf from Hengeler Müller, as well as Dr. Peter Wand from Debevoise & Plimpton in Frankfurt, all as corporate / M&A partners. In addition, Baker promoted Christian Vocke in Frankfurt, formerly Gleiss Lutz, to partner of the corporate practice on 1 July 2015.
