Melinda Phelan Named Chair of Baker McKenzie's North America Tax Practice
Melinda Phelan has been named Chair of Baker McKenzie's North America Tax Practice Group.
A partner in Dallas in Baker McKenzie’s Tax Practice Group, Melinda has more than 20 years of international tax experience advising multinational companies on sophisticated international tax planning and transfer pricing matters. She helps clients navigate the increasingly complex global tax environment and optimize their tax strategies. In addition, Melinda has held a variety of other leadership roles in the Firm.
"Melinda is a very experienced and highly respected tax professional," said Duane Webber, a member of Baker McKenzie’s Global Executive Committee and the former Chair of the Firm's Global Tax Practice. "She will be an excellent leader of our market leading tax practice in North America serving a range of national and international clients. Our tax practice continues to grow globally and in North America - in July we announced the appointment of 12 new tax partners from within the Firm and during the last 12 months we have recruited 10 senior lateral partners."
Melinda was elected in March to begin a three year term beginning on July 1. She is part of the Global Tax leadership team lead by Simone Musa, who has succeeded Duane as the Chair of the Global Tax Group.
"It is an honor to be selected to lead our Tax Practice in North America," said Melinda.
I look forward to working with Simone and continuing the standard of excellent service to our clients.
Simone adds, "I am delighted to welcome Melinda to this important role at such a critical time. Baker McKenzie has the largest and most highly regarded tax practice of any global law firm, ranked Band 1 by Chambers globally with over half a billion dollars in revenues and nearly 1,000 tax practitioners in more than 40 countries."
Melinda regularly advises US corporations operating overseas, as well as foreign corporations and individuals operating and investing in the United States, on a broad range of international tax issues.
She has been involved in numerous domestic and international mergers, acquisitions and reorganizations. Melinda’s practice also includes transfer pricing, audit and controversy matters.
