Yann Padova has joined Baker McKenzie’s Information Technologies and Communications team in Paris where he will take charge of the “Personal Data” practice.
Yann Padova, 50 years’ old, is a recognised international specialist in digital network law, personal data and regulatory law. He has assisted numerous businesses with complex projects involving information technologies (big data compliance, ethics of algorithm, data governance, profiling, e-discovery procedures, etc.). He has also advised the management of large enterprises on the assessment of the risks linked to the challenges of new technologies, in particular with regard to those introduced by the European regulation on the protection of data (GDPR) which will come into force in May 2018. He has also worked with large groups on problems linked to cybercriminality which are on the rise.

Before joining Baker McKenzie, Yann Padova was a member of a regulatory commission (2015-2017), to which he was appointed by the President of the National Assembly due to his skills in the field of personal data. Before this, he had worked for Baker McKenzie in Paris as Senior Counsel in the Information Technologies and Communications team (2012-2015). For 6 years, he was Secretary General of the CNIL, the French data protection authority (2006-2012). He began his career as an Administrator at the National Assembly (1995-2006) where he specialised in personal data laws, criminal law and criminal procedures.
Admitted to the Paris bar in 2013, Yann Padova is a graduate of Sciences Po Paris and the University of Paris IV Sorbonne. He also has a masters’ degree in Public Law from the University of Toulouse and a post-graduate diploma in economy from Sciences Po Paris.
He has published numerous articles on the protection of data in international reviews, in particular in the Columbia Law Review or in the Oxford International data Privacy Law review.
Yann Padova will be appointed Partner as soon as he has re-registered at the bar, which is in progress and should be completed in the days following his arrival.
