Quisumbing Torres Partner Bienvenido Marquez III recently joined a round table discussion on issues and concerns relating to intellectual property rights enforcement with the Philippine Judicial Academy (PHILJA). Held last 6 and 7 April at Diamond Hotel Manila, the round table discussion was organized by PHILJA with the support of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the American Bar Association-Rule of Law Initiative. It aimed to gather experts to share experiences and best practices related to intellectual property rights enforcement before an audience of commercial court judges handling intellectual property cases.
During the first day of the round table discussion, Marquez III spoke on "Resolving Issues on Colorable Imitation and Confusing Similarity: A Critical Analysis of Supreme Court Rulings on Trademark and Unfair Competition Cases". He also shared his experiences relating to enforcement actions he has handled. Joining him in the discussion was Associate Justice Ramon Paul L. Hernando of the Court of Appeals.
The round table discussion provided a platform for experts and legal professionals to discuss the various issues and concerns facing them when handling IP cases, and to provide judges with insights when resolving and disposing of IP cases. PHILJA Chancellor Adolfo S. Azcuna, IPO Dir. Gen. Josephine Santiago, and DDG Allan Gepty graced he event with representatives from the American Bar Association-Rule of Law Initiative.
