Daniel Goelzer Appointed to SASB Standards Board
Daniel Goelzer, Senior Counsel in Baker McKenzie's Banking, Finance and Major Projects Practice, has been appointed to the inaugural Standards Board of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), an independent standards-setting organization dedicated to enhancing the efficiency of capital markets.
Established in 2011, the SASB maintains sustainability accounting standards for 79 industries, which help public companies disclose material information to investors in SEC filings in a cost-effective manner. The SASB's nine-member Standards Board is responsible for setting standards, maintaining technical agendas, responding to stakeholders and proposing updates to the standards.
"We have carefully considered and selected the members of the SASB Standards Board to represent a diversity of key perspectives, including individuals with expertise and experience in standards-setting, corporate reporting, and investing and financial analysis," said Alan Beller, Chair of the Nominating & Governance Committee of the SASB Foundation. "Through the Standards Board’s talented and diverse make-up and the establishment of the standard-setting process that it will follow, we seek to ensure the development of standards that result in disclosure of material, decision-useful information, while also being operational and cost-effective."
Added Dan, "I am honored to join SASB's Standards Board, and I look forward to working with this impressive group of experts in setting and maintaining high quality standards to assist companies in disclosing material information to investors concerning corporate sustainability performance."
Based in Washington, DC, Dan advises clients on issues of securities law disclosure and compliance, corporate governance matters, and the regulation and oversight of auditors. He also counsels global custodian banks and other financial institutions with respect to financial services regulation. He has previously served as General Counsel of the Securities and Exchange Commission and as a founding member and Acting Chair of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.
