Intellectual property lawyer Dyan House has joined Baker McKenzie's North America Intellectual Property Practice in Dallas as Counsel, bringing more than a decade of experience advising clients on trademark, copyright and franchise matters.
Dyan represents clients before the US Patent and Trademark Office and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and she advises on domestic and international brand protection across a range of industries, including restaurants, retail, financial services, energy, technology and consumer products. She also negotiates trademark license agreements and coexistence agreements. Dyan joins Baker McKenzie from Carter Scholer, where she led the trademark, copyright and franchise practice.
"In the increasingly competitive global marketplace, clients are looking to Baker McKenzie for help protecting their brands, and Dyan is an exceptional trademark lawyer and experienced license negotiator," said Kevin O’Brien, Chair of the Firm's North America Intellectual Property Practice. "Her industry experience will help to further strengthen our IP capabilities and immediately benefit our clients."
"Dyan's experience advising clients from diverse industries will not only expand our trademark capabilities in Dallas, but also complement our franchising practice, allowing her to provide unique insights to our clients," said Michael Santa Maria, Managing Partner of the Firm's Dallas office. "We are pleased to add her to our team."
Baker McKenzie's Intellectual Property Practice is composed of nearly 400 intellectual property lawyers in 40 countries, covering the full scope of IP services in more jurisdictions than any other firm. The practice was recently named the 2017 Global IP Firm of the Year by Managing Intellectual Property and has received a Band 1 ranking by Chambers Global for eight consecutive years.
"Dyan is another stand-out practitioner to join our Firm as we continue to enhance our capabilities across North America to better serve our clients," said Rick Hammett, Baker McKenzie's North American Managing Partner. "Her experience will bring added depth to our Intellectual Property Practice."
Baker McKenzie has added more than 40 lateral partners in North America over the last two years, as it continues to strengthen its presence in key markets and practice areas. Dyan joining the Firm's Intellectual Property Practice follows the arrival of healthcare regulatory attorneys Jur Strobos and Neil O'Flaherty in Washington, DC, and IP litigator Marc Cavan in Chicago.
“Baker McKenzie has a deep bench of IP practitioners, and I look forward to using the Firm’s global platform and cross-practice expertise to augment the services I offer my clients," Dyan said.
Dyan is council member on the Dallas Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Section, and a former chair of the American Bar Association’s Trademark Transactions Committee. She has co-chaired the committee for the Southwest Region of the INTA Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition since 2014, and she was recognized for her trademark work in the 2017 World Trademark Review’s WTR 1000.
Dyan received her B.A. and B.A. Art from the University of Texas, M.A. from the University of Notre Dame and J.D. from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law.
