Baker McKenzie has been named among the leading Innovative Law Firms in North America by the Financial Times in its 2016 Innovative Lawyers Report, considered one of the top legal rankings in the US, Canada and Mexico.
The Firm was named among the Top 20 Most Innovative Law Firms in the region, recognized for its forward-thinking work for clients across three categories -- Business of Law, Legal Expertise and Social Responsibility. The report assesses lawyers and law firms based on their innovation for both clients and their own businesses. Winners were selected through extensive research and nearly 400 interviews with lawyers, legal experts and clients.
"We are exceptionally proud of these recognitions in innovation," said Rick Hammett, Baker McKenzie's North America Managing Partner. "Our Firm is committed to developing bold solutions for our clients as they respond to changing industry demands and market forces around the world."
The Firm's DataComplianceIQ product, a full-spectrum data solution for clients, earned the FT's award for Innovation in the Business of Law: Integrated Solutions category. Partner Theo Ling was individually commended for his role in developing the product, and he was also named in the FT's list of the Top 10 Innovative Individuals in North America, recognizing attorneys who "stand out for their disruptive approaches."
In addition, Baker McKenzie's work on the Hewlett-Packard split, the largest corporate split in history that involved more than 600 Firm lawyers in 100 countries, earned a "commended" rating by the FT. Finally, the Firm's collaboration with the Consortium for Street Children, giving poor youth around the world a voice in public policy, also received a "commended" rating.
Baker McKenzie is one of only a few firms in the world to be recognized in all of the FT Innovative Lawyer Awards globally. In October, Baker McKenzie was recognized in the European Innovative Lawyer Awards as a standout firm in Innovation in Securitisation category based on the Firm’s work with PrimeRevenue, a European insurance-backed structure to allow investors to fund small companies by investing in their suppliers’ payment obligations. In June, the Firm was also recognized as one of the leading innovative law firms in the Asia Pacific region.
