Firm Announces Three New Appointments in Paris office
International law firm Baker & McKenzie has announced three appointments at its Paris office, at the level of Local Partner, Senior Counsel and Counsel in the three following departments: Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Tax and Litigation & Arbitration. The appointments are effective as of July 1.
Karim Boulmelh has been appointed Counsel. A member of the Paris Bar since 2002, he is a holder of a Masters in Economic and Social Administration from the University of Paris XII – Val-de-Marne (1995), of a post-graduate diploma in private international law and comparative law from the University of Paris VIII – Saint-Denis (2001) and a LL.M. from the University of Georgetown in the United States (2006). He joined the firm’s Litigation & Arbitration department as a Senior Associate in May 2010. Prior to this he worked for firms Courtois Lebel as a senior associate and for Ernst & Young as an associate. He specialises in business litigation and industrial risks, representing clients both before the state courts and during domestic and international commercial arbitration. He also assists clients in litigation in various sectors (telecommunications, energy and industrial gases, aeronautics, satellite industry, etc.). Karim works on large industrial and infrastructure projects, commercial contracts, construction law and international trade laws as well as post-acquisition litigation, action for unfair competition and parasitism, and international goods sales. Lastly, he assists clients at advisory and pre-litigation stages, in particular with the drafting and negotiation of complex agreements in connection with industrial or infrastructure projects.
Magalie Dansac Le Clerc has been appointed Local Partner. A member of the Paris Bar since 2008, she is a holder of a Masters in Business law and economy from the University of Paris I – Panthéon Sorbonne (2007) and a Masters in artistic and industrial literary property from the University of Paris II – Panthéon Assas (2006). She joined the Baker & McKenzie ICT department in 2008 as a trainee, before going on to become an associate in January 2009. Magalie spent 9 months in the International Commercial department of the Chicago office in 2014. As a specialist in laws on new technologies, IT contracts, the Internet and telecommunications, she assists companies in new technologies, software publishers and IT service providers as well as major IT services users, in particular in the drafting and negotiation of outsourcing, integration and licence agreements as well as services in computing and telecommunications. Holder of CIPP/E certification issued by the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), she also advises clients in areas of regulations on the protection of personal data and electronic commerce.
Lionel Ochs has been appointed Senior Counsel. Holder of a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) diploma and a Masters degree in tax and corporate law and diplôme de juriste-conseil d’entreprise from the University of Strasbourg (2000), he joined the Baker & McKenzie Tax department’s transfer pricing team in 2013 as Economist Counsel; before this, he worked for over 12 years for an economics consulting company and in the transfer pricing team of a French pharmaceutical multinational. He assists multinational French and foreign clientele from different sectors (pharmacy, luxury industry, energy, transports, property, financial services, etc.) with the definition, implementation, documentation and defence of transfer pricing policies. Lionel has developed specific expertise in economic modelling and valuation techniques for tax purposes and for the purposes of establishing the amount of any prejudice within the framework of commercial litigation.
