Dean Dolan has joined Baker & McKenzie in Toronto as Counsel in the Firm's International Commercial Practice, bringing more than 15 years of experience as a senior in-house lawyer focused on data privacy law matters.

Most recently, Mr. Dolan served as Vice President, Associate General Counsel and Privacy Officer for Walmart Canada Corporation, responsible for data privacy, litigation and employment law matters. Mr. Dolan began his career as an associate at Baker & McKenzie.

"Dean is a well-known and highly regarded data privacy practitioner in the Canadian in-house legal community," said Kevin Coon, Managing Partner of the Firm's Toronto office. "He is well-versed in the challenges facing many multinationals related to information governance, and his in-house experience will allow him to provide unique insights for our clients."

Mr. Dolan will work closely with the Firm's Global Information Technology & Communications group, providing counsel to clients as they navigate compliance and regulatory risks around the world related to information security.

"Our clients must navigate a complex patchwork of laws and regulations pertaining to data privacy and information management," said Miguel Noyola, Chair of the Firm's North American International Commercial Practice. "I know our clients will immediately benefit from Dean's expertise in this area. We're proud that he started his career at Baker, and we are thrilled to have him back."

"Dean's background will be a tremendous asset to our ITC practice, specifically for our clients utilizing our iG360 platform and seeking a global perspective on a range of information governance issues," said Theo Ling, Chair of the Firm's ITC practice in Canada and Chair of the Firm's Global Data Privacy and Information Management Leadership Team. "Dean understands the unique challenges our clients face, and we are very pleased to have him join our team."

In recent years, the Firm has also augmented its transactional, tax and IP capabilities in Canada, among other areas.

"I am thrilled to return to Baker & McKenzie and be a part of its data privacy and information management practice," said Mr. Dolan. "I look forward to working with my new colleagues to deliver world class solutions to our clients."
