In 1991, by means of Law No. 24,013, the National Council of Employment, Productivity and Minimum Wages was created (the Council); the main role of the Council being the determination of the value of the Minimum Wage (SMVM for its acronym in Spanish).

This Council, composed of representatives of the Employer's Chambers, the Unions and the Government meets periodically in order to update the SMVM.

On August 30, the members of the Council were summoned for this purpose.

After falling on the attempt to settle, the government has unilaterally decided the new value of the SMVM applicable for monthly workers and full-time employees. Such amount will be updated in three steps, as follows:

(i) ARS 14,125 as of August 1, 2019.

(ii) ARS 15,625 as of September 1, 2019.

(iii) ARS 16,875 as of October 1, 2019.
