Description

The Data and Machine Learning Solutions Architect will provide technical leadership and mentorship for a team of engineers, data scientists, and analysts while collaborating closely with our exclusive third-party AI platform provider, SparkBeyond. The Data and ML Solutions Architect will regularly interface with internal and client stakeholders to identify decision points in legal processes where expert legal judgment provides measurable impact, designing the appropriate solution options.

Baker McKenzie is investing in a new team, the Baker McKenzie Machine Learning Practice (“BakerML”), that combines data science, internal and external data, machine learning, and legal domain expertise to create new value for clients, our firm, and our communities around the world. You will be with us from the beginning as a senior member of the BakerML team, defining groundbreaking solutions that deliver machine learning-enabled legal judgment to support better decision-making. BakerML sits at the forefront of legal services innovation and is at the center of the firm's Reinvent program. 

We are looking for an experienced Data and ML Solutions Architect to join our full lifecycle, "idea to operate" machine learning practice. We need a proven leader capable of framing, designing, and managing the technical vision of our ML-driven solutions based on a deep appreciation of user and business needs.


Responsibilities:

  • Engage clients and internal stakeholders to architect, position, design, develop and deploy ML solutions that convert business requirements into well-scoped legal judgment use cases
  • Coordinate and synthesize business requirements, functional design, process design (including business decision point mapping), prototyping, testing, training, and requirements definition
  • Coordinate with enterprise IT, create and deliver BakerML architecture blueprints for solution infrastructure, execution, data, technology, and security by utilizing third-party technologies (SparkBeyond) and modular cloud-native services for machine learning, data, storage, governance, etc.
  • Scope, architect, and lead prototypes for internal and external projects that demonstrate the business value and technical feasibility ML-enabled legal judgment use cases
  • Lead architectural assessments, gap analysis, future-state architectures, roadmaps, and post-prototype delivery planning
  • Implement reusable assets and standards, and ensure that reusable assets are utilized across multiple solutions
  • Plan for issues and risks in advance, collaborating with colleagues to identify and implement mitigation measures
  • Capture architectural IP for the development of new solutions and the enhancement of existing offerings


Skills and Experience:

  • Strong relevant IT experience and some experience delivering AI/ML projects have attained a Bachelor's degree in applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, electrical engineering, physics, or related field (or 10+ years of experience designing and programming data and advanced analytics-driven applications for large enterprises).

The successful candidate should possess the following experience and skills

  • Deep technical experience with AI technologies (including common ML frameworks, Python, MLOps, cloud and hybrid infrastructures, and architecture designs)
  • Experience designing, building, coding, and deploying production solutions for business usage involving complex systems integration, major cloud platforms, and multiple big data and machine learning technologies and libraries
  • Experience developing blueprints for solution architecture, data architecture, integration architecture, operations architecture, and infrastructure architecture for production-deployed solutions on-premise and in the cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Experience architecting and deploying at least one AI/ML-enabled solution end-to-end, where it is currently delivering measurable value
  • Excellent hands-on knowledge of relevant cloud-native services in the areas of data pipelining, analytics, storage, compute, machine learning, management, governance, and integration
  • Experience in Hadoop, Spark, Storm, or related paradigms and associated languages such as Pig, Hive, Mahout, plus strong programming background in Python, Scala, Java/C++, R, etc.
  • Experience working with RESTful API and general service-oriented architectures
  • Experience in solution development across prototype/PoC, pilot, and production workflows
  • Ability to navigate a global professional services organization to facilitate work beyond the immediate technical team
  • Demonstrated leadership in a professional setting
