Baker & McKenzie’s Austria and Switzerland offices recognized for groundbreaking M&A work Our Austria and Switzerland offices recently made the final nomination list for the Financial Times and Mergermarket’s 2009 Legal Advisor of the Year award for their innovative work on numerous banking transactions throughout the past year. The award recognizes law firms for their corporate, private equity, banking and legal M&A knowledge and excellence. Our M&A team in Austria and Switzerland has grown to include nearly 20 partners with offices in Geneva, Zurich and Vienna.		Baker & McKenzie advises on first IPO on Swiss bourse in seven months The firm represented one of Switzerland's largest food companies in its initial public offering to raise USD75 million to pay off debt. Orior, a portfolio company of private equity firm Capvis that makes food products like salami and ham, is the first company to issue new shares on the SIX Swiss Exchange since August 2009.		Swiss Competition Commission fines companies for export bans In December 2009, the Swiss Competition Commission imposed a fine of CHF4.8 million on Gaba International AG, a manufacturer of toothpaste, because of an export ban imposed on its Austrian licensee, who was also fined with a symbolic amount of CHF10,000. This export ban had prevented Swiss retailers from buying the toothpaste at lower prices in neighboring markets. Even though the parties may appeal the decision, manufacturers should review their agreements and make sure that they do not impose any restrictions on their contractual parties on imports to Switzerland.
