Brian Segal is a partner with the law firm of Baker & McKenzie practising in the Firm’s Toronto Office. Mr. Segal graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Civil Law and a Bachelor of Laws degree. Prior to joining Baker & McKenzie, Mr. Segal practised with the Canadian Department of Justice in the Tax Litigation Group.
Practice Focus
Mr. Segal specializes in income tax matters, particularly in the cross border area. Baker & McKenzie in Canada is ranked in the 2003 annual survey published by the International Tax Review as “highly recommended” in tax transactions. Mr. Segal has been involved in transfer pricing strategy and dispute resolution, has handled all phases of pricing matters over the years, including planning, documentation, audit defense, Appeals, Competent Authority proceedings, and litigation for major blue chip multinational companies across a wide range of industries. Mr. Segal has written and spoken extensively on Canadian and transborder tax issues and has presented papers at both the Canadian Tax Foundation annual conference and Ontario conference. He is a co-author of the Canadian section of the CCH loose-leaf service on International Transfer Pricing and a past editor on international issues of Carswell’s Taxation of Real Estate in Canada and is listed as a leading lawyer in Canada by International Tax Review.
