United Kingdom - New British Standard for Data Protection Available
BSI British Standards (BSI) has launched its first standard for the management of personal information, BS 10012 Data protection. Specification for a personal information management system. BS10012 has been developed to establish best practice and aid compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998 after a survey by BSI revealed that one in five businesses had breached the legislation at least once. BS10012 provides the framework which will enable effective management of personal information and sets out guidance on matters such as training, risk assessment, data sharing and the retention and disposal of data.
