Owen Chio’s main practice areas include mergers and acquisitions, general corporate and general commercial law matters. He also handles legal issues related to the oil & gas and power sectors. Prior to joining Baker & McKenzie in 2001, Mr. Chio workedat Linklaters in Hong Kong and at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in Hong Kong respectively. From 2006 to 2008, Mr. Chio served as the chief writer and editor of Baker & McKenzie’s Merger & Acquisitions Taiwan Section. He also co-authored "Intellectual Property Protection Regime in Taiwan" for Global Counsel Intellectual Property Handbook 2002 and "Recent Developments and Practice Issues in Taiwan" published in the March 2003 issue of
Tax Planning International - Mergers & Acquisitions.

Mr. Chio has extensive experience advising (i) buyers and sellers of cross-border mergers and share/asset acquisition, joint ventures and investments, (ii) owners of power projects and gas suppliers and buyers, and (iii) corporate entities in cross-border corporate and commercial contract negotiations, documentations and cross-border commercial disputes.
Representative Legal Matters
- Acting for Prime View International Co., Ltd. in relation to its bid to acquire a US company through reverse cash-out merger.
- Acting for Eastern Shop Direct Co., Ltd. and Chung Tai Co., Ltd. in connection with their sell of 91percent shares in Eastern Home Shopping Co., Ltd. to a foreign private equity company in the multi-billion TWD deal.
- Acting for Chinese Petroleum Corporation in relation to its purchase of natural gas from Qatar, its purchase of LNG tankers, its construction of natural gas receiving terminal and under water pipe lines. This is the largest natural gas project ever conducted in Taiwan.
- Acted for Macronix International Co., Ltd. in relation to its joint venture with Qimonda AG in the joint development of flash memory products in Germany and establishment of plants in Singapore.
- Acted for Yahoo Taiwan Inc. in relation to its acquisition of Wretch Co., Ltd.
- Acted for certain Eastern Group companies and Mr. Gary Wang in relation to their sale of shares in Eastern Multimedia Company Limited, Eastern Broadcasting Company and Eastern Home Shopping Company. This is a landmark multi-billion TWD deal in the industry.
- Acted for FNAC S.A. in its negotiation and documentation of a joint venture with Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store Co., Ltd. and Tung-Shing Investment Co., Ltd.
- Acted for and conducted a due diligence exercise for a group of foreign investors in connection with their proposed purchase of certain offshore convertible bonds to be issued by Tainan Enterprise Co., Ltd.
