Baker & McKenzie Partner Awarded an Order of Australia

Sydney, Australia, 11 June 2012 – Baker & McKenzie partner and head of the Firm's global environmental markets group, Martijn Wilder, has been awarded a Member of the Order of Australia by Australia's Governor-General, Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO.
Mr Wilder, who was instrumental in establishing Baker & McKenzie's climate change practice, was honoured for his service to environmental law, particularly in the area of climate change through contributions to the development of law, global regulation, public policy and the promotion of public debate, and to the community.
Baker & McKenzie Managing Partner, Chris Freeland, congratulated Mr Wilder on behalf of the Firm for the prestigious honour.
"Over the last 20 years Martijn has been involved in the development of law and policy work on issues ranging from Antarctica, National Oceans Policy to the protection of fauna and flora and climate change. These efforts have occurred on both a national and global stage where he has often taken a leadership role in the development of legal systems and in particular the development of private law around climate change and carbon markets," he said.
In addition to his work at Baker & McKenzie, Mr Wilder is Adjunct Professor of Climate Change Lawcarb and Policy at the Australia National University, Chair of the NSW Government’s Climate Change Council, and was the chair the NSW Government’s Carbon Markets Taskforce. He is also on the Governing Board of the International Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership, a founding member of the Renewable Energy and International Law Project, a governor of the World Wildlife Fund, a Director of Low Carbon Australia, is on the Advisory Group of the Climate Institute and is an Affiliate of the Cambridge Centre for Climate Change Mitigation Research Department of Land Economy University of Cambridge.
Mr Wilder, who is married to Jane and has 10-year-old twins Reuben and Nathalie, holds a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) from the University of Sydney, LLB Honours from the Australian National University, LLM from the University of Cambridge and has studied at the Hague Academy Centre for Studies and Research in International Law and International Relations.
