Jaime Vargas serves as head of the Firm’s Tax Practice Group in Colombia. He also has experience working in the Mexico office of Baker & McKenzie, where he handled the International and Corporate Tax Department of Coca Cola FEMSA. Prior to this, Mr. Vargas was the managing partner of the legal and tax practices of Deloitte and Arthur Andersen. In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Vargas has written several publications on taxation matters and has worked as a professor of international and corporate taxes in some of the most renowned universities in Colombia. He has also been consistently acknowledged as one of the best tax advisors in Colombia by leading journals, including International Tax Review and Euromoney.

Mr. Vargas’ practice covers national and international tax planning and controversy, as well as tax controversy and litigation. He has also handled general tax planning for the oil and gas sectors. Mr. Vargas has served as tax adviser in the restructuring of several companies operating in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Panama, among others. He has also been involved in the merger and acquisition of several companies in Latin American countries.
