Deal Announcement
August 26, 2009
Melbourne, Australia, 26 August 2009 – Baker & McKenzie has advised Macquarie Capital Advisers as underwriter and lead manager of the AUD421 million RAPID rights issue by ConnectEast Group [ASX: CEU].
Baker & McKenzie assisted Macquarie to negotiate and document its underwriting of ConnectEast's renounceable rights issue. Partner Craig Andrade led the Baker & McKenzie team, which included Rick Troiano and Chris Chong. Partner Andrew Reilly also provided international law advice.
Commenting on the renounceable rights issue, Craig Andrade said, "We worked with our client, Macquarie, to document and launch the transaction in an extremely tight timeframe. This required a high degree of collaboration and focus on material issues. Our experience and existing client relationship with Macquarie ensured that ConnectEast could move quickly to take advantage of current market conditions."
The deal demonstrates Baker & McKenzie's experience and capability in capital market transactions, and follows from the Firm's involvement in equity raisings by IBA Health Group, STW Communications, the Bunnings Warehouse Property Trust, and the Charter Hall Group earlier this year, and Commonwealth Bank of Australia's AUD2 billion equity placement in 2008.
