In March 2013, the Drug Bureau, under the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced it would allow the submission of real time stability studies of just six months (reduced from 12 months) as a part of an application file for the registration of generics, new drugs, new generics, and biological products. Applicants are required to certify that an additional real time stability study of at least 12 months will be submitted within 6 months after the initial submission of the application file.

This is a very impressive figure but according to recent estimates by McKinsey & Co., worldwide medical tourism is a USD100 billion industry, a figure which leaves Asia ample opportunity to catch up and grow further.
