Baker & McKenzie Advises on the Acquisition of Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Sydney

Sydney, Australia, 28 January 2010 – Baker & McKenzie has advised on the acquisition of the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Sydney for A$185 million. The hotel with 630 guest rooms is the largest in Australia and is well positioned near Darling Harbour. The purchase also included adjacent commercial office, retail and restaurant premises. The hotel was sold by the GPT Group to an undisclosed Asian buyer as part of its sale of non-core assets.
The team in Baker & McKenzie's Sydney office was led by Roy Melick and David Jones with assistance from partners Graeme Dickson, John Walker, Amrit Macintyre and Howard Fraser.
Commenting on the deal, Roy Melick said, "We were very pleased to be able to assist our client to complete the acquisition of one of Sydney's landmark hotels. The transaction involved a number of complex cross-border issues and required significant input from our specialist hotel lawyers."
