Paris, 9 June 2009 – Baker & McKenzie Partner Denise Lebeau-Marianna participated in the proceedings of the AMCHAM "personal data" work group on behaviour marketing issues. The consultation was in connection to the Senate report on the right to privacy in the age of digital data storage.
During the interview, Baker & McKenzie pointed out the need to improve information to consumers on the use of their data for targeted marketing purposes. The information contributed to the authorship of Senate recommendation no. 2, which advocates for similar provisions.
The information briefing on the observance of the right to privacy in the age of digital data storage was submitted on 27 May 2009 by Senators Yves Détraigne and Anne-Marie Escoffier. Fifteen recommendations were drawn up. They covered three main subjects: changing citizens into "homo numericus" (sufficiently computer literate to safeguard their data), strengthening CNIL's (French Data Protection Authority) resources and legal powers and enhancing the current legal framework on data protection. This report is in line with the presentation of the White Paper on personal data protection in the USA prepared by the American Chamber of Commerce in France ("AmCham France").
