Sydney, Australia, 11 May 2010 – Baker & McKenzie is the author of a new report on Clean Energy Market Opportunities in Korea and Australia. The 75-page Report analyses energy resources, development and consumption in the two countries, and considers national emissions-reduction targets, existing clean energy capabilities and renewable-energy power plants, and mechanisms to reduce carbon emissions, including carbon capture and storage projects.
The Report was launched at the Clean Energy Council Conference in Adelaide on 3 May 2010. It was written with the support of the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) and with contributions from the Australian Clean Energy Council and the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA).
Australia's Parliamentary Secretary for Trade, the Hon. Anthony Byrne MP said of the Report, "The Report is a useful guidebook to the state of play in clean energy policy and practice in Korea and Australia and it makes a good case that future growth in Australia-Korea commercial ties lies in clean energy trade
and investment."
Hanna Lee, corporate partner based in Sydney and who heads up the Korea practice for the Australian offices of Baker & McKenzie, said "Baker & McKenzie has supported Australian and Korean clients in their cross-border investment activities for many years and we are sure that this Report will provide the foundation for a new level of investment between the two nations, in particular in clean energy projects and technologies, to help meet the challenges of climate change. This Report is a further illustration of Baker & McKenzie's distinctive global way of thinking across borders, issues and practices."
Paul Curnow, partner in Baker & McKenzie's Global Environmental Markets practice group, based in Sydney, said of the Report, "The Report has demonstrated that there are significant synergies and opportunities for Australian and Korean companies to supply and invest in clean energy and renewable projects. As Australia's third-largest export market, Korea provides great opportunities particularly for Australian companies looking at providing advanced technology and services to Korean clean energy industries. Baker & McKenzie has supported Australian and Korean clients in their cross-border investment activities for many years and we are sure that this Report will provide the foundation for a new level of investment in clean energies technologies which will also help meet the challenges of climate change."
