Jackson Elected Chair of North America Compensation and Employment Law Group

Firm News
12 July 2012
Palo Alto, USA, July 12, 2012 – Cynthia Jackson has been elected Chair of Baker & McKenzie’s North America Compensation and Employment Law Practice Group.  She takes over from Rick Hammett, Chair since 2005, who will serve in the group’s Management Committee and as Managing Partner of the Houston office.  Ms. Jackson will assume a position in the Firm’s Global Employment Steering Committee.

Ms. Jackson joined Baker & McKenzie as a Partner in 1999.  She has over 30 years of experience working on domestic and international employment counseling and litigation, where she has been consistently recognized as a leader by Chambers USA, Legal 500, Best Lawyers of America, Northern California Super Lawyers, and America’s Leading Lawyers for Business.  She has served as head of the Firm’s Northern California Employment Practice, and in the North America Employment and Corporate Compliance steering committees.  View her complete bio.

Ms. Jackson will lead a dynamic employment law practice that recently welcomed ERISA litigator James Baker in San Francisco and Compensation and Benefits partner Anne Batter in Washington, DC. The practice has more than 100 lawyers working seamlessly across 9 offices in US and Canadian financial centers in the key disciplines of Employment Counseling and Litigation, Executive Compensation and Employee Benefits, Global Equity Services, Global Employment and Labor Law, and Global Immigration and Mobility. Legal 500 USA recognized over 50% of the US partners in the practice group in their 2012 Labor & Employment guide, Chambers USA ranked eight partners and shortlisted the firm’s Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation practice in their 2012 Awards for Excellence, and The Recorder named Baker & McKenzie in its 2011 list of firms with “absolute go-to employment law practices in the Bay Area.”

“I'm honored to have been elected chair of the practice,” said Ms. Jackson. “In today’s turbulent economic times, employment, labor and benefits issues are complex and challenging for every business. Our clients' interests remain paramount, and I will continue to work with my partners to advise companies navigating through local, national and global laws and regulations.

“Cynthia's focus on exceeding client expectations in every engagement and her leadership experience make her a natural fit for this position,” said Philip Suse, the Firm's North American Managing Partner.  "We're very happy that she has assumed this leadership role."
