Baker & McKenzie Tax Practice Names Catlin Urban Director

Chicago, IL – January 19, 2010 – Baker & McKenzie LLP has appointed Catlin Urban as Director in the Firm’s US Tax Controversy practice.
Urban is a CPA and joined Baker & McKenzie in 1995. She is among an elite group of non-attorney tax practitioners in the US admitted to practice in the US Tax Court on an equal footing with attorneys. Urban is an experienced tax professional with extensive Tax Court trial experience. She conducts factual development, financial analysis and witness preparation in complicated tax controversies. She also assists Baker & McKenzie’s senior tax litigators in developing controversy strategies and negotiating with the IRS at the administrative level and in court. Urban received her Master of Science in Taxation from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 1995.

Urban has litigated several key cases, including Veritas Software Corp. v. Commissioner, 133 T.C. No. 14 (Dec. 10, 2009); Microsoft Corp. v. Commissioner, 115 T.C. 228 (2000), rev’d & rem’d, 311 F.3d 1178 (9th Cir. 2002); and Compaq Computer Corp. v. Commissioner, 78 T.C.M. (CCH) 20 (1999).
Baker & McKenzie’s Tax Controversy group has represented clients in federal, state and foreign tax controversies for over 50 years and the US team has logged more than 200 cases that have been docketed and either settled or litigated.
