Chicago, USA, November 13, 2012 - Baker & McKenzie was named one of the top law firms for women today by
Working Mother magazine and the Flex-Time Lawyers organization. This is the second consecutive year the Firm was recognized in this manner, in addition to being included in the prestigious list in 2007 and 2008 as well.
Published in the December/January issue of
Working Mother magazine, the closely watched annual recognition honors 50 law firms that “are most successful in retaining and promoting women lawyers,” and that support "family-friendly policies and business development initiatives that are retaining women and advancing them into the leadership pipeline."
“An inclusive work environment where women lawyers are true leaders and build thriving practices is critical to our mission of providing exceptional service to clients,” said Philip F. Suse, Baker & McKenzie’s North American Managing Partner. “There's much more work to do, but this recognition supports our continued focus on making Baker & McKenzie an unrivaled environment for top talent to succeed.”
In its profile of Baker & McKenzie,
Working Mother noted the launch of the Firm's global gender initiative, which is designed to foster increased gender diversity and women leaders throughout the Firm. Baker & McKenzie's flexible work options policy, and its formal mentoring and coaching programs, were also factors supporting the recognition.
“We are very happy to again be named one of the top law firms for women,” said Partner Regine Corrado, Chair of Baker & McKenzie’s North America Women's Initiative, which oversees the implementation of programs designed to foster women leaders within the Firm. “We continue to focus on our goals of retaining, developing and promoting our women lawyers at all levels of the Firm, and we appreciate the recognition of these efforts and their efficacy.”
The recognition follows other recent acknowledgments of the Firm's global efforts to foster gender diversity, including:
- Euromoney in 2012 has recognized the Firm as the "Best International Firm for Work/Life Balance" in London, the "Best Firm for Minority Women Lawyers" in Australia, and was shortlisted as the “Best International Firm for Women in Business Law” in Asia.
- Baker & McKenzie was the only law firm featured in a recent report on women leaders by International Consortium for Executive Development Research.
- Earlier this year, MultiCultural Law magazine recognized the Firm as one of the top 50 law firms for women in its ranking of the "Top 100 Law Firms for Diversity."
“The Working Mother and Flex-Time Lawyers 50 Best Law Firms for Women have led the way in creating new models for the rest of their profession in promoting women and developing more generous work life policies," said Carol Evans, president of Working Mother Media, in a statement. "These firms deserve recognition for working to improve women’s advancement and to equalize their compensation and access to business development."
