7 November 2011
Moscow, Russia, 7 November 2011 – Baker & McKenzie has advised the shareholders of OOO Opitny Stekolny Zavod, one of Russia’s largest producers and distributors of glassware, on the sale of a 75% stake to Arc International SA, the leading French manufacturer and distributor of tableware.
Opitny Stekolny Zavod is located in the town of Gus-Khrustalny, known as the center of the glass industry in Russia. The company was founded in the 1960s. After technical reconstruction of the plant in 1996, Opitny Stekolny Zavod is now one of the leading Russian manufacturers and distributors of glassware, including glasses, bowls, beer mugs, ashtrays and candlestick holders.
Advice given to Opitny Stekolny Zavod included turn-key sell-side M&A assistance to Russian shareholders, pre-investment diagnostics, group restructuring, and preparation and negotiation of the transactional documents. Commenting on the transaction, Baker & McKenzie Moscow partner Igor Makarov said, “Being in the real non-energy sector of the Russian economy, this deal hopefully represents, along with a series of other similar deals we have completed over the last ten months, a turning point – from post-crisis recession to an uplift in market.”
The Baker & McKenzie team was led by Moscow partner Igor Makarov. Support was provided by Moscow associates Dmitry Yeremin and Alexey Afanasiev.
