Sydney, Australia, 2 February 2010 – Baker & McKenzie is very pleased to welcome Andrew Chew to the Firm as a partner in the Firm's Sydney Construction practice and as a member of Baker & McKenzie's specialist Infrastructure Group. Andrew, who is also a qualified engineer, was formerly with Mallesons Stephen Jaques and Blake Dawson Waldron in Sydney where he specialised in Construction and Major Infrastructure Projects.

Andrew has had a senior role in many significant infrastructure and construction projects over the last 15 years including acting for successful bidders for the Peninsula Link project, the Mitcham-Frankston Freeway, the North-South By-pass Tunnel, the Western Sydney Orbital toll-road project, the Chatswood Transport Interchange, the Sunbury Rail Electrification Alliance Project, the supply of the Outer Suburban Trains to RailCorp, as well as advising on the US$5 billion Saudi Landbridge project, on documentation for the Sydney desalination plant and on the financing for the Defence Single LEAP.

Andrew is the sixth new lateral partner elected by Baker & McKenzie from other major Australian law firms and investment banks in the last 12 months, joining Nick Grambas (Project Finance and Infrastructure) from Macquarie Group, two other new partners from Mallesons Stephen Jaques – Geoff Wood (Construction and Infrastructure) and Tim Sherman (Tax) - Alex Hartmann (Construction and Infrastructure) from DLA Phillips Fox and John Mollard (Resources and Major Projects) from Blake Dawson.

Commenting on Andrew Chew joining Baker & McKenzie, Mark Chapple, National Managing Partner, said, " We are very pleased to welcome Andrew to Baker & McKenzie.  Andrew's arrival represents another significant step in the continuing expansion of our Australian and regional Infrastructure and Construction practices and we fully expect that our clients will benefit significantly from this further enhancement of our already deep experience in facilitating the effective delivery of major projects across a wide range of industry sectors."
