Global Emerging Markets - India

As India’s economy continues to grow from strength to strength, it offers valuable opportunities for multinationals exploring inbound investments, and local companies expanding overseas.

Baker & McKenzie has been helping companies capture opportunities in India and worldwide for over 50 years. With more than 300 member lawyers, resources spanning more than 70 offices in more than 40 countries, including 26 of the world’s 30 largest economies and 12 of the 15 most resource-rich, our India Focus Group is uniquely positioned to help international companies navigate Indian markets, and serve Indian companies in key destinations where they are investing.

Seamless support for inbound investments

Our group advises on the international aspects of inbound transactions, and has skillfully guided multinational companies operating in India or entering the Indian market for the first time. We do not advise on local law due to regulatory restrictions in India, but our close relationships with the country’s leading law firms mean we can recommend and work with the best local talent who will advise on Indian law.

Partners for outbound investments

We have successfully helped Indian companies execute intricate transactions abroad, including in Latin America, Europe, Japan and the US. In recent years, our group has assisted with mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, structured financings, project development, real estate investment and dispute resolution. With broad global presence and multi-practice fluency, we can put together the right team wherever you execute transactions.

We also look at OHIM's proposed common practice on the scope of protection given to black and white marks, recent CJEU case law concerning trade mark dilution and the latest word on government policy around plain packaging of tobacco products in the UK.
