Baker McKenzie wins renowned Tax Partner from PwC
Baker McKenzie strengthens its tax practice with a Lateral from PwC: Thomas Schänzle joins in Frankfurt as a partner effective April 1, 2018. Schänzle was Partner at PwC for six years in Frankfurt and Munich. Before that, he was a partner at the law firm Flick Gocke Schaumburg and, among others, held a senior position in the tax department of Siemens AG.
Thomas Schänzle graduated in business administration, is a certified tax consultant and holds a PhD in international tax law from the European Business School.
"With Dr. Thomas Schänzle, we are happy to have won a highly respected expert in corporate tax law, international tax planning and reorganization for our team. With his experience, especially in advising major German companies, he complements our focus on global mandates ideally and our strategy to be even more present on the German tax market. We warmly welcome him in our tax team", says Nicole Looks, Head of the German/Austrian tax practice at Baker McKenzie.
Thomas Schänzle has extensive experience in national and international corporate tax law. He advises domestic and foreign corporate enterprises, especially large German corporations and family businesses, on national and international reorganizations, transactions, joint venture structuring and international tax strategies. At PwC, he was also Lead Tax Partner responsible for various strategic mandates such as Siemens, EnBW, Boehringer Ingelheim and Heraeus.
"For my practice Baker McKenzie provides a unique global platform which has an excellent reputation in tax law and is one of the largest practice groups in the firm's global strategy. With the development of important specialized practices in the fields of sales tax and customs duties as well as transfer pricing, it has developed a unique selling proposition and thus represents an extremely attractive alternative to the Big4 for German clients - also in international reorganization and tax planning projects. The firm has both large national and international highly competent teams accustomed to giving interdisciplinary advice, in addition to the classic legal tax advice. I look forward to working together with the team", comments Dr. Thomas Schänzle on his move.
Previous joiner in the Baker McKenzie tax team in Germany was Dr. Stephan Georg Behnes, who joined Baker McKenzie in July 2015 after 15 years with KPMG.
