Manila, Philippines, July 2017 - Quisumbing Torres joins Enactus in celebrating the power of the youth and their enterprising passion during the 2017 Enactus Philippines' National Competition.

Dennis Quintero, a partner in the Firm's Corporate & Commercial Practice Group, head of the Firm's Energy, Mining and Infrastructure Group, and the incumbent Enactus Philippines Board Secretary, represented the firm in this momentous event. "I am very pleased that we are part of the continuing successful staging of the Enactus Philippines National Finals. Serving as Enactus' institutional partner, Quisumbing Torres continues to support innovation among the youth. Personally, I am very impressed with their enterprising ideas and tangible programs that provide solutions with sustainable impact in their communities," Dennis said as he affirmed the firm's commitment to this advocacy.

The National Competition opened with a welcome address by Enactus Philippines Chairman Jose P. Leviste Jr. who mentioned that the event not only fosters creativity, but encourages student-leaders to become beacons of change for our fellow Filipinos. He also introduced Department of Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III, who was keynote speaker during the Opening Ceremony. Sec. Dominguez said, "Enactus introduced a powerful model for bringing students to their communities in a manner that involved the application of skills. This is a model with great impact on social development and a lasting effect on the lives of the poor. I hope this approach to building a synergy between classroom learning and serving the poor will be replicated and improved."

After the League and Final competitions, Christopher Nelson, Chairman of British Chamber Commerce Philippines led the Awarding Ceremonies. He spoke about the ties that bind our two nations on many levels and shared with the participants about what they can expect to see and experience during the visit to London.

George Barcelon, President of Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry ("PCCI") was keynote speaker at the Closing Ceremony and awarded the Championship trophy to Holy Trinity College and to the three other finalists, which include Sultan Kudarat State University – Access Campus (1st Runner Up), Sultan Kudarat State University – Isulan Campus (2nd Runner Up), and Nueva Vizcaya State University (3rd Runner Up). Mr. Barcelon commended Enactus for providing a venue where entrepreneurship can be showcased as the vehicle to effect positive change in the country. He said, "The PCCI supports you in your future endeavor. May your organization reach out to more universities and stakeholders. Together, we will work to ensure expansive and inclusive growth that spill down to the last man on the streets". QT Partner Dennis Quintero is also Chairman and Trustee of the Philippines-Australia Business Council ("PABC"), the official private sector representative to the bilateral relations between the Philippines and Australia. The PABC was organized in 1975 by business leaders from the Chamber of Industries of the Philippines that eventually formed part of today's PCCI.

On the eve of the National Competition, Enactus Philippines organized a Welcome Ceremony and Networking Reception for the competing and observing teams. Atty. Siegfred Mison, Senior Vice President for Legal, Corporate Communications and General Counsel of Philippine Airlines, welcomed the next breed of student-leaders and said, "We hope to continue flying the best Philippine team to the Enactus World Finals in the coming years. We will always be here to support because we believe in the noble goals of Enactus which is invest in students who take entrepreneurial action for others to create a better world for all of us."

Other competing teams were Adamson University, Columban College, Sultan Kudarat State University-Tacurong Campus, Tarlac Agricultural University and University of Antique.

Quisumbing Torres' Tax Partner Ronald Bernas, Corporate & Commercial Associate Katrina Ross Manzano and Marketing & Communications Manager Therese Reyes served as competition judges.

Enactus is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring students to improve the world through entrepreneurial action. The Enactus Philippines National Competition was held at the SMX Convention Center last 7 - 8 July 2017.
