    Baker & McKenzie advised the Sponsors (Saudi Arabian Mining Company - Ma’aden and Saudi Basic Industries Company - SABIC) and the Project Company (Ma’aden Phosphate Company) on the development and financing of a USD6 billion phosphates fertilizer project in Saudi Arabia, the largest project of its kind in the world and one of the most significant project financings of the year
  • Euromoney Project Finance: Asia Pacific Petrochemicals Deal of the Year (2008) 
    Baker & McKenzie acted for the Mandated Lead Arrangers in relation to the PPT Ashai Petrochemical Plant Deal in Map Ta Phut, Thailand

  • Latin Lawyer: Top 3 2008 M&A deals; Baker & McKenzie represented Gas Natural Group as purchaser in connection with the acquisition of four CCGTs and a gas pipeline owned by EDF, and a fifth CCGT owned by EDF and Mitsubishi; transaction value was USD1.448 billion; the transaction was also recognized as “the largest merger and acquisition deal in Latin America and could set the stage for many more deals in Mexico” by Project Finance International

  • Euromoney Project Finance: Asia-Pacific Petrochemicals Deal of the Year. Baker & McKenzie acted for the sponsors in relation to the USD475 million HMC Polymers project financing transaction, which was the only Asian petrochemicals deal with international bank participation
  • Euromoney Project Finance: Asia-Pacific Power Deal of the Year 2007. Baker & McKenzie acted for the Nomura Group as the provider of a USD230 million mezzanine loan to finance Marubeni/TEPCO’s acquisition of Mirant’s Philippine power operations
  • Project Finance International: Asia Pacific Awards 2007 PPP Deal of the Year. Baker & McKenzie acted for Lockheed Martin in relation to a long-term contract to provide pilot training to the Singapore Air Force; transaction involved acquisition and lease financing (underwritten by ANZ) of 19 military training aircraft and associated flight simulators
  • Project Finance International: EME Awards 2007 Mining Deal of the Year. Baker & McKenzie acted for KORES on the acquisition of a 27.5% interest in the Ambatovy nickel project in Madagascar. The USD3.6 billion construction and development project was one of the largest nickel mines ever developed, involving improvement of port facilities and creation of a power plant, slurry pipeline and processing facilities
  • Euromoney Project Finance: Middle East Petrochemicals Deal of the Year. Baker & McKenzie acted for the lenders in the USD1 billion construction of a world scale nitrogen facility in Damietta, Egypt, the largest petrochemicals project financing in Egypt to date
  • Euromoney Project Finance: Latin American Refinancing Deal of the Year. Baker & McKenzie acted for the Panama Canal Railway Company (PCRC), a joint venture company owned in equal proportions by affiliates of Mi-Jack Products, Inc. and Kansas City Southern, in connection with an offering of USD100 million of 7% Senior Secured Notes
  • New Energy Finance: Ranked Top Legal Advisor of CDM/JI Projects by Number of Deals, Clean Energy League Tables 2007
