Environmental Law in Venezuela

Environmental law has evolved rapidly in recent years, and environmental impact must be considered for any project or business planned in Venezuela. Any activity — whether timber, mining, agricultural or industrial — that does not meet applicable technical specifications has the potential to generate significant legal liability.

Our Environmental Law Practice Group advises clients at every stage of a project on preventing risk in activities that could damage the environment. After analyzing specific conditions and regulations, we recommend legal structures which offer the greatest protection. We assist in engaging in environmental due diligence that gives the client full knowledge of any preexisting conditions. Often, specific areas affected by industrial development are subject to special regulations; complete understanding of all applicable standards is critical. We design innovative ways to meet environmental standards progressively. For privatizations and concessions, following regulatory guidelines is critical; we provide guidance through this relatively new and untested area.
