Japan Desk in the Netherlands

The Netherlands is considered one of the best places in Europe to conduct business. To keep the economy strong and internationally competitive, the Dutch government has created a tax regime that encourages entrepreneurship and foreign investment. To help Japanese multinationals take advantage of these incentives, Baker & McKenzie Amsterdam has a Japan Practice Group dedicated to guiding clients in finding investment opportunities and expanding their existing businesses.

Established in 1989, our Japan Practice Group is supported by a Japanese manager or paralegal who works with our local partners and experts to provide the services Japanese clients need to succeed in the Netherlands. Our team respects cultural diversity within various business settings and knows how to work with clients from their perspective. Cultivated for more than 20 years, our understanding of Japanese business practices is a core strength of our Japan Practice Group. Japanese clients also benefit from our firm’s global network, which enables us to draw upon colleagues in our Tokyo office to support Japanese multinational companies in cross-border transactions.

Business Seminars
In cooperation with the Japanese Chamber of Commerce (JCC), the Dutch & Japanese Trade Federation (DUJAT), and the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (NFIA), we organize business seminars for the executives and managers of Japanese companies working in the Netherlands. Our seminars cover common issues that Japanese companies face in the Netherlands, such as employment law, contract law, corporation law, Dutch law compliances, international tax, and transfer pricing.

Newsletters, Client Alerts and Baker & McKenzie publications
To update Japanese clients on various legal and tax issues, we regularly distribute newsletters and client alerts via email. Our complimentary “Doing Business in the Netherlands Handbook” as well as the rest of our “Doing Business In” series for countries around the world, are also key resources for clients.

Japanese Translations
We also provide complete Japanese translations of the following Dutch Law Series and Dutch Law compliance guidelines:

  • The Dutch Employment Law
  • The Dutch Works Councils Act
  • The Dutch Corporate Law (B.V.)
  • The Dutch Annual Accounts

If you have questions or would like to receive Japanese translations of our Dutch Law or Japanese guidelines, please contact Japan Practice Group Manager  (+31 20 551 7421).
