Lisa Douglas is well-versed in a wide range of issues involving commercial law and regulatory compliance, and brings to her practice over 25 years of experience in legal research and information management. She is a member of Baker & McKenzie’s North American International Commercial Practice Group and the Firm’s Global Information Technology & Communications and Global Banking & Finance groups.
Practice Focus
Lisa focuses on commercial law and regulatory compliance with an emphasis on information governance including global records management, privacy, cross-border data transfer, electronic records, lawful access, and freedom of information. She also provides Canadian financial services regulatory advice including anti-money laundering compliance, as well as the regulatory aspects of public procurement including lobbying and anti-corruption compliance. Her commercial practice covers contracting, sales and distribution relationships, and consumer protection, particularly from an e-commerce perspective.
Representative Legal Matters
- Directs Global Information Governance projects including records retention, privacy, cross-border data transfer and e-records implications for international clients in a variety of sectors including banking and financial services, consulting, technology, manufacturing, insurance, pharmaceutical/medical devices and agricultural food.
- Provides Canadian Financial Services Regulatory guidance for foreign and domestic banks, insurance companies and other financial services providers including anti-money laundering compliance.
- Advises on Corporate Compliance including lobbying and anti-corruption advice and guidance relating to interactions with healthcare professionals.
- Advises on commercial contracting including sales/supply/services, distribution and agency agreements, website terms and conditions, and privacy policies.
