Dr. Friel advises clients and investors on all aspects of German corporate law, particularly those involving national or multinational M&A transactions and joint ventures. His practice also focuses on German insolvency law — including distressed mergers and acquisitions — and real estate matters.

Advised The John Buck Company on its acquisition of the Sony Center Berlin (together with Morgan Stanley and Corpus Sireo), the formation of corresponding joint ventures and the subsequent restructuring of the investment.

Assisted a European shopping center investor/developer in the formation of joint ventures with a US partner relating to the investment in, and development of, shopping centers in Eastern Europe.
