Baker & McKenzie Partners Named Asian-MENA Counsel’s External Counsel of the Year

Asia Pacific, 12 June 2012 – Four Baker & McKenzie partners were recently recognized by Asian-MENA Counsel as being “External Counsel of the Year” after being nominated by the in-house counsel community across Asia and the Middle East. Baker & McKenzie received more citations than any other international law firms in the region.
Partners Rico Chan, Martin Tam, Pornapa Thaicharoen and Peerapan Tungsuwan were lauded as among those who have demonstrated legal and commercial acumen, and have gone above and beyond in delivering outstanding client service and optimum results.
Rico Chan is a partner based in Hong Kong and heads Baker & McKenzie’s China/Hong Kong Property Practice. He represents major foreign investors, financiers and corporate users in a wide range of transactions involving commercial, industrial and residential real estate, hotel and mixed-use projects, as well as infrastructure and construction projects – covering greenfield development, acquisition, financing, disposal, property trusts, REITs, tenancy and restructurings.
Martin Tam is a partner at Baker & McKenzie and is based in Hong Kong. His practice focuses on insurance, investment funds and pension law. He has extensive experience in a wide range of insurance transactional and advisory work, such as authorisations and acquisitions of insurance companies, advising on insurance policies and matters relating to insurance intermediaries, negotiation of bancassurance and other commercial agreements, as well as regulatory and compliance issues across Hong Kong and China.
Pornapa Thaicharoen is a partner based in Bangkok and heads the Firm’s Corporate & Commercial, Tax, as well as the International Trade, Compliance & Customs Practice Groups in Thailand. Her experience spans a range of law, including corporate restructuring, insurance, major projects, mergers and acquisitions, trade competition, and international trade, compliance & customs.
Peerapan Tungsuwan is a partner in the Bangkok office with specialties in corporate matters, mergers and acquisitions as well as transactions. Her areas of specialty include pharmaceuticals, consumer protection and environmental law. She is the head of Baker & McKenzie’s Asia-Pacific Regional Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare Industry Group and a member of Baker & McKenzie's Global Trade & Commerce Practice Group. Within the Bangkok office, she is a lead partner in the Mergers & Acquisitions and Corporate & Commercial Practice Groups; co-leader of Japanese Desk; head of Pharmaceuticals and Natural Resources (Oil, Gas, & Mining) Industry Groups.
