In 2004, Our Climate Change and Energy Efficiency Practice was one of the first to be established in Russia and has since then become one of the region’s most dynamically growing practices. We were involved in the creation of related climate change enactments, and have worked with the regulators, as well as local and foreign stakeholders, on setting the stage for Kyoto Protocol projects in the region. We have collaborated with the Russian Ministry of Economic Development on facilitating the development of Joint Implementation (JI) projects and Green Investment Schemes (GIS), and we continue to advise regulators on improving legal framework for implementation.
Our unique insights on contractual structures related to Kyoto Protocol and voluntary emission reductions (VER) are increasingly being sought by both foreign companies and Russian producers. We fluently advise on structuring and trading VERs generated in a number of multipurpose projects in Russia, as well as on structuring corporate and profit-sharing relationships based on Kyoto Protocol-related projects. Our lawyers also help in structuring JI projects involving tradable instruments, including assigned amount units (AAU) and emission reduction units (ERU).
