Tax in North America

The North America Tax Practice Group has been a market leader in providing international tax advice to multinational corporations since 1949. With more than 190 lawyers and economists in 10 locations, we advise US and foreign companies on a wide range of international, corporate and partnership tax issues. We represent corporate clients in administrative tax disputes and litigation, with extensive experience in tax controversies subject to the IRS large case and coordinated examination programs.

Our Tax team has decades of experience developing, implementing and defending transfer pricing policies for multinational clients, as well as performing reviews to minimize state and local taxes. We advise partnerships, limited liability companies, trusts, S corporations and other pass-through entities on the tax consequences of domestic and international transactions. We also help high-net worth clients develop tax planning strategies for their international investments, businesses and estates.

In a recent announcement, the US Internal Revenue Service clarifies schedules for reporting obligations and other requirements under the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). Under the modified schedule, withholding agents must implement new account opening procedures by 1 January 2014.
On 17 January 2013, the US Treasury published final regulations interpreting the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). The final regulations incorporates more than 200 comments received by the Treasury and the recently concluded intergovernmental agreements implementing the FATCA.
