Tran Manh Hung is the principal and managing lawyer of BMVN International LLC, a licensed law firm and IP agent. Mr. Tran has represented various multinational companies in different industries including infrastructure, telecommunications, port, retail and distribution to assist with establishing investment projects in Vietnam. Mr. Tran was voted Vietnam Lawyer of the Year (2009) in the national poll of Vietnamese lawyers organized jointly by the Vietnam Lawyers’ Federation, the Ministry of Justice and Vietnam Law Magazine. In addition to authoring several publications, Mr. Tran has given speeches on various aspects of IP matters in Vietnam. He is the chairman of the Legal Committee of Hanoi American Chamber of Commerce.

Practice Focus

Mr. Tran has been involved in contentious and non-contentious aspects of IP law, including trademarks, copyright, design, unfair competition, anti-counterfeiting, domain names, and commercial and intellectual property including franchising and licensing arrangements, trade secrets, and technology laws. He has assisted the government in reviewing and revising the IP law and the IP provisions under the country’s criminal code. Mr. Tran has successfully represented some of the world’s biggest multinational companies on trademark infringement, opposition and cancellation cases, including acting for a global software company, Inter Ikea and Hugo Boss in one of the first domain name cases before the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

• Advised brand owners such as Lacoste, Volvo, SCA Hygiene Products AB, 3M, Seiko and Hallmark on trademark infringement cases.
• Advised a well-known electronics brand, one of the largest software companies, and a global consumer products company on trademark infringement cases.
• Represented Cisco, LVMH, Calvin Klein, The Body Shop, Ricoh, Bose, Starbucks and Sawafuji in several anti-counterfeiting and anti-piracy raid action against infringers.
• Advised on a landmark litigation case for the Vietnamese Government in conjunction with Baker & McKenzie’s US offices.
• Advised various world-famous fashion brands to establish their subsidiaries and operation in Vietnam.
