Joseph Samet is a member of the Firm's Global Recovery, Restructuring and Bankruptcy Group in the New York office. For more than three decades, Mr. Samet has represented all parties in interest in US and international workouts and restructurings, chapter 11 reorganizations, as well as bankruptcy cases. He also counsels clients on insurance and monoline related issues, structured finance, SIPC proceedings and matters related to debtor-in-possession financing, sales of assets and issues involving intellectual property and troubled assets. Mr. Samet is regularly listed among the world's leading insolvency and restructuring lawyers by the Euromoney Legal Media Group Guide.
Practice Focus
Mr. Samet represents parties in interest on potential creditors' rights/bankruptcy implications of domestic and cross-border deals, in acquisitions and distressed investments, on structured finance and corporate governance issues, as well as in pre-bankruptcy litigation. He represents all parties in interest and financially distressed corporations and partnerships across various industries — manufacturing, retail, service, airlines, energy, healthcare, real estate, e-commerce, insurance and telecommunications, among others. This work includes the prosecution and defense of preference, fraudulent conveyance, equitable subordination and substantive consolidation actions, as well as officer/director issues and related litigation. Mr. Samet has also testified as an expert witness in jury trials and in an international arbitration.

Mr. Samet has represented diverse parties in interest in the following chapter 11 insolvency and restructuring matters: Lehman Brothers, Madoff, Satmex, Sancor restructurings, Allegiance Telecom, Harnischfeger, ACA and SCA Monocline insurance restructurings.
