Baker & McKenzie GJBJ Tokyo Aoyama Aoki Koma Law Office (Gaikokuho Joint Enterprise) has provided exceptional legal services to clients operating in Japan and internationally for four decades, and is one of the oldest, since opening its doors as an associated office of Baker & McKenzie in 1972. We currently have over 160 professionals who are bengoshi, gaikokuho jimu bengoshi, foreign attorneys, tax and patent attorneys, as well as economists — the size of our office is unrivalled by any other international firm in Tokyo.

Collaborating with our integrated network of more than 3,800 lawyers around the world, we provide solution-oriented advice in various legal areas, including cross-border and multinational M&A, corporate law, banking and finance, intellectual property, international tax and litigation. We also focus on industries including pharmaceuticals, hotels and real estate, and major projects, with a concentration on energy, mining and infrastructure.

We have a diversified unit of both Japanese domestic and foreign lawyers who work collaboratively to serve domestic, foreign and multinational clients. Most of our lawyers are bilingual and understand cultural and linguistic sensitivities, which gives us the unique ability to meet the needs of businesses in Japan.
