Jan Snel practices in the area of indirect tax. Prior to becoming a partner at the Firm’s Amsterdam office, he worked in the Palo Alto office, where he routinely assisted US companies — many of which are high tech or e-commerce companies — in dealing with VAT and customs issues, particularly in multinational contexts. He is also an active member of the Dutch Bar Association (Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten), the Dutch Tax Advisers Bar Association (Nederlandse Orde van Belastingadviseurs) and the Dutch Tax Scholar Association (Vereniging voor Belastingwetenschap).
Practice Focus
Mr. Snel’s practice emphasizes on international VAT and customs law, primarily on behalf of high-tech and e-commerce companies. A main focus is multinational VAT planning leading to a VAT-efficient sale and services structure for such multinationals with, for example, minimal VAT compliance obligations and VAT refund issues. In addition to his practice, he is a frequent speaker on EU VAT and customs issues at international tax planning programs, including the Tax Executives Institute and the Chicago Tax Club.
