Dr. Glenn DeSouza leads the China Transfer Pricing Services at Baker McKenzie. Recognized as the first full-time transfer pricing expert to be based in mainland China, Dr. DeSouza is the founder and leader of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ China Transfer Pricing team. He also served as PWC’s Asian regional leader for Transfer Pricing, and was a member of their Global Transfer Pricing Executive Committee. Also a former MBA professor in the University of Massachusetts, Dr. DeSouza has conducted numerous transfer pricing studies in 20 countries, including bilateral APAs. He has also authored two books and over 300 articles.

Practice Focus

Dr. DeSouza leads a team of seasoned professionals with extensive transfer pricing and tax bureau experience in all facets of the transfer pricing arena, including audit defense and APAs. He has conducted well over 1,000 transfer pricing projects in China, and has negotiated IP arrangements and implemented cash repatriation strategies. His restructuring projects have included meetings with SAT, MOC, SAFE and other regulatory authorities.

Representative Legal Matters

• Developed the original tools and databases for China-specific benchmarking.
• Provided training to tax officials on the use of comparables and on electronic databases such as BVD.
• Advises the SAT with regard to their forthcoming documentation requirement and shared with them his U.S. experiences and their applicability to China.
