Gerald J. Hayes heads the New York office's Insurance and Reinsurance practice. For over 30 years, he has worked on the corporate and regulatory aspects of insurance companies, particularly captive insurance companies, non-US companies insuring or reinsuring US risks and nuclear insurance matters. Mr. Hayes served as managing partner of the Firm’s New York office in 1995, 1997 and from 1999 to 2006. He also is a former member of Baker & McKenzie’s Nominating Committee, the North America Regional Council and other task-related committees and subcommittees. Mr. Hayes is a member of the American Bar Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
Practice Focus
Mr. Hayes' practice focuses on policy coverage issues, reinsurance commutations and US insurance regulations. He also advises clients on antitrust and unfair competition issues, and assists in the structuring and formation of captive insurance companies, financial insurance products and rent-a-captives.
Representative Legal Matters

Authored the Florida Industrial Insured Captive Insurance Statute and has also been involved in amendments to corporate or insurance statutes, including protected cell company provisions, in Delaware, South Carolina and Barbados, as well as many private statutes in Bermuda.

Helped organize industry mutual insurer of US nuclear power plants.

Helped organize utility industry mutual insurer to write general liability and directors and officers liability risks.
