Federico Ruanova-Guinea has been practicing law since 1988, and is currently the coordinator of the Firm’s environmental and natural resources practice group in Mexico. He practices mainly in the areas of environment and climate change law, with emphasis on environmental impact and risk, as well as the prevention, risks and control of air, water and soil pollution. His practice also covers hazardous substance management, occupational health and safety issues, as well as carbon trading and administrative litigation. Mr. Ruanova-Guinea is a member of the National Association of Corporate Attorneys of Mexico.

Practice Focus

Mr. Ruanova-Guinea routinely advises on myriad issues related to environment and climate change. His wide client base includes companies in the industrial and manufacturing sectors, as well as power plants, water and wastewater treatment companies, hotels and resorts and financial institutions. Mr. Ruanova-Guinea has been involved in notable and precedent-setting cases, including the representation of a French company in a water litigation case involving the use and exploitation of water in the State of Veracruz. He has also successfully represented clients in cases against Mexico’s Federal Bureau of Environmental Protection.

  • Advised on legal matters related to the construction and operation of a truck manufacturing facility in Escobedo, Nuevo León, Mexico, particularly on environmental permit and compliance requirements.
  • Advised on legal matters related to the construction and operation of a cell-phone manufacturing facility in Chihuahua, Mexico, particularly on environmental and health & safety permits and compliance requirements.
  • Advised a film studio in Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico on environmental and health & safety permits and compliance requirements derived from movie-making activities.
  • Advised on legal matters related to the operation of a hazardous waste treatment facility in Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico, particularly on environmental permitting and compliance requirements.
  • Advised a combined-cycle power plant in Mérida, Yucatán on environmental permitting and compliance requirements.
  • Advised a nitrogen production facility next to the Cantarel offshore oil field in Campeche, Mexico on water and water-quality related to the construction of a nitrogen gas line running from the nitrogen production facility to the oil offshore field.
  • Advised a major wastewater treatment plant in Tijuana Mexico on EHS permitting requirements
  • Advised several resort developments in Cancún and Los Cabos Mexico on land use, environmental permitting and natural resources protection issues.
